Congratulations to Belinda Jarvis for winning the Golden Smartie award.
As a newly qualified secondary teacher, Belinda has gifted her excellent subject knowledge and people skills to Hayes School in Bromley, Kent.
Stephen Whittle, Principal at Hayes School approached Smart with his nomination and stated:
“Belinda has thrown herself into school teaching across three subjects; RE, history and geography which involves liaising with a number of senior management staff as well as teachers, with whom she shares classes. She has quickly got to grips with systems in our outstanding school and meets the high expectations we have of all teachers and supports and challenges students in her classes, where her expectations of them are high.
Belinda has been involved in school trips and visits accompanying a history trip to the Somme and she has been appointed to accompany sixth form students on a trip to Brussels later this year.
Belinda is a positive presence in the school, she is friendly, approachable and well-liked by colleagues and students.
Needless to say she is pleased that she took up the post at Hayes having spoken with some friends in other schools and was pleased when I met with her to discuss a role for a further year at the school next year.”
Smart consultant Stephanie Hayes visited Belinda at the school and presented her with the accolade and a shopping voucher.

The Golden Smartie award recognises outstanding teachers and support staff for their dedication, professionalism and work on behalf of Smart Teachers. We recognise our outstanding ‘Smarties’ based on contributions to their school, excellence in the classroom, leadership abilities, community involvement and a variety of other criteria. The winning candidate will receive a certificate of recognition and a cash prize from Smart Teachers.
