UK Teacher Emily was able to change her dreams of sunshine, pristine beaches and a more relaxed pace of life into a reality. Arriving in Australia on a Skilled Migrant Visa, she secured her first teaching job through Smart Teachers at an all-boys’ Independent school in East Sydney at the start of 2018.
My experience of teaching in Sydney has been eye opening! There are many differences between the school I taught at in the UK and the school I teach at here, but unsurprisingly whatever country you’re in: students are students. They all bring their unique strengths and challenges to your classroom.
Before accepting my new teaching job, I felt it was important to consider the culture of the school. With so many different sports and excursions to participate in, it is very different to what I experienced in the UK. My new school really helps me embrace that Aussie lifestyle!
I absolutely love the different outlook on life that the pupils and teachers have here. Working next to such a beautiful set of beaches and coastline with surfer dudes and outdoor lovers has been so refreshing and has given me an amazing perspective on work-life balance.
For other international teachers who are thinking of relocating to Sydney, the registration process is super straightforward! Just make sure you bring all your documentation and certificates with you.
