Rosie joined our sister company, Vision for Education, as an ECT who wanted to complete her induction period. With her determination and Vision for Education’s help she developed her skills and gained valuable experience in a secondary school. Now she has passed her induction and has been working as teacher full-time. Here’s how she did it.
Rosie was moving from London to Newcastle part-way through a term, so initially joined a supply agency to help her get some work.
She said: “I had heard good things about Vision for Education, so I decided to contact them. The registration process was so easy and they were amazing with getting me signed up. I really liked that they listened to me and took into account what type of school I was after, and as they are the preferred agency for a lot of schools it gave me many options to choose from.”
Rosie had a successful background working in a Pupil Referral Unit and wanted to complete her induction in a mainstream school setting, but was finding it difficult to find the right job.
She shared: “As I had minimal school experience, I was finding getting work in a school quite tough. I was also looking for a school that would take me on as an ECT. When I contacted Vision for Education, they helped me find a really supportive PE department and school that has allowed me to develop as a teacher, and now I have officially passed my induction and am an RQT (recently qualified teacher), which I’m really happy with.”
Rosie continued: “My colleagues across the school supported me in my learning too. They let me observe them teaching in all subjects, so I could pick up as much knowledge, skills and tips as possible to try in my own teaching.”
Rosie has thrived whilst using a supply agency to complete her ECT induction. She said: “Working with a supply agency like Vision for Education and Smart Teachers can be a great stepping stone, and quite often schools will take you on as permanent, so it’s a great way into a school environment. And if I was going to give one piece of advice to other ECTs thinking about working with a supply agency, I would say be open and honest about what jobs you want and be open minded about things you might not have considered before as it can lead to other exciting opportunities.”
