Finding a place to belong
Reggie Newman, Secondary Divisional Manager

When Reggie Newman left sixth form, he didn’t know what to do next. He knew he wanted to work in the city and find a career where he could make something of himself but didn’t know where or how. So, when he heard about education recruitment through advice from friends, he gave it a try and has not looked back since.

A friend of Reggie’s suggested he try working at an education recruitment agency. Reggie said: “I secured an interview and thought I’d give it a go. I’m glad I did, because I quickly felt at home within the profession and loved the impact I felt I could make while progressing my own career.”

Reggie joined Smart Teachers early on his career and realised the sector and the company were the right fit for him. He shares: “Even from my very first interview, I immediately loved the buzz of the office at Smart Teachers and the small agency/family orientated environment. I knew this was where I wanted to be. And because I loved it, I really wanted to do well. So, I was eager to learn, listen to those around me and try really hard and because of this, my career has progressed immensely.”

Reggie has gone from strength to strength during his time at Smart Teachers. The job has enabled him to grow personally as well as professionally. He said: “I started as a trainee working for different teams before being promoted to senior consultant and then divisional manager not long after. I’ve been supported throughout with any personal challenges I’ve had, and I’ve really grown as a person and learnt the craft of managing people and developing relationships.”

Reggie is really proud of the career he has carved for himself: “Every day we ensure pupils have quality educational staff by providing the schools with short-term cover, whilst ensuring those staff are doing what they love. I feel we make a difference every day. And I’m also proud of my team, who I’ve helped develop and train into fantastic consultants.”

At Smart Teachers, we want all our staff to be proud of the work they do. We take the time to encourage and support our staff to succeed by providing the right environment for them to thrive. Reggie shares: “The best things about working for Smart Teachers is the culture, ethos, people and leadership team. Smart Teachers is everything you would want in a company – it’s fun, rewarding, challenging, supportive and full of opportunities and more. It’s definitely the place where I belong.”
