Smart Teachers are recruiting on behalf of a dynamic and inclusive secondary academy in North London for a dedicated and experienced Second in Charge – Science to join their high-performing science department in September 2025.

Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the science faculty

Drive excellence in teaching, learning and curriculum development across KS3–KS5

Foster a culture of high expectations, innovation, and academic rigour

Act as a role model for colleagues in teaching and professional conduct

Use data to track progress and raise achievement, especially among disadvantaged and SEND learners

Lead on schemes of learning, intervention strategies, and staff development

Collaborate with wider curriculum leaders and SLT to help deliver whole-school improvement priorities

Requirements
To be considered for the role of Second in Charge of Science you will:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in a relevant science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline)
- Proven experience of successful science teaching at Key Stage 3 and 4 (and ideally KS5)
- A strong understanding of effective curriculum planning and assessment in science
- Ability to use data to inform teaching, track progress, and raise achievement
- Experience of leading others or managing projects within a science department
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable commitment to inclusion and high expectations for all learners
- Ability to motivate staff and students with a collaborative and aspirational approach
- Willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
