A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Brent is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join its specialist Rainbow Room from September 2026. This is a full-time position for the full academic year, supporting children in EYFS with high SEND needs.

About the role

The Role

Based within the school's dedicated Rainbow Room, you will support children in the Early Years Foundation Stage with a range of complex SEND needs. Working alongside teachers, the SENDCo, therapists, and other support staff, you will help deliver personalised learning, encourage communication and independence, and provide consistent emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day.

This role requires patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting children who require specialist care and tailored educational approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality support to pupils with high SEND needs within the Rainbow Room
  • Work on a 1:1 basis and with small groups of children
  • Support pupils with their communication, emotional regulation, and personal development
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual EHCP targets
  • Implement behaviour and sensory support strategies where appropriate
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENDCo, therapists, and external professionals
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment
  • Record observations and contribute to pupil progress reviews

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEND Teaching Assistant you will:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND
  • Experience working with children with complex needs, Autism (ASC), non-verbal pupils, or sensory needs is highly desirable
  • Previous experience within a UK primary school or specialist setting
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:

  • SEND Experience
