A high-performing and forward-thinking secondary academy in South London is seeking to appoint an exceptional and ambitious Head of English to lead and further develop a successful English department from April 2026.

The Head of English will provide strategic and operational leadership for the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong student outcomes, and a cohesive, ambitious curriculum across all key stages. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven or emerging track record of leadership, capable of motivating and supporting colleagues to achieve excellence.

Requirements
To be considered for the role of Head of English you will:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have significant experience teaching English across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
- Have strong subject knowledge and a passion for English and literacy
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
- QTS
- Leadership experience
Key responsibilities
As Head of English you will be responsible for:
- Leading, managing, and developing the English department
- Designing and implementing a coherent, ambitious English curriculum
- Supporting, coaching, and developing staff within the department
