A mainstream primary school in Romford is looking to appoint an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs across the school.

About the role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to pupils with a range of additional needs. Depending on the school's requirements, this could include working on a 1:1 basis, supporting small groups or assisting within the classroom.

You will work closely with class teachers and the school's SEND team to implement appropriate strategies and ensure pupils remain engaged in their learning. The successful candidate will be confident adapting their approach according to individual needs and able to build positive relationships with children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support children to access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
  • Assist pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Implement individual support strategies and learning programmes.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence and independence.
  • Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Adapt activities and resources where appropriate.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the wider SEND team.
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress and share relevant observations.
  • Promote an inclusive, calm and positive learning environment.
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions and wider school activities.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEND Teaching Assistant you will:

  • Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant.
  • Experience supporting children with a range of SEND needs.
  • Experience providing 1:1 or small-group support.
  • Confidence supporting behaviour and individual learning needs.
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:

  • SEND Experience
