About the role

As a KS2 SEND TA, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with autism, helping them access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. You will support the pupil both academically and pastorally, adapting activities where necessary and helping them develop their communication, independence and social skills.

The role will require a calm, patient and consistent approach. Building a strong relationship with the pupil will be particularly important, alongside working closely with the class teacher and SEND team to ensure continuity and consistency in their support.

  • Support the pupil to access and engage with the curriculum.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage independence and confidence within the classroom.
  • Support communication and social interaction.
  • Help the pupil manage transitions and changes throughout the school day.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Follow individual support strategies and guidance provided by the school.
  • Monitor engagement, progress and any changes in behaviour or needs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SEND team and wider school staff.
  • Build a positive, trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil.
  • Encourage participation in classroom activities and the wider school environment.

About the school

The school is a supportive and inclusive primary setting that is committed to ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to thrive. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive environment where children feel safe, valued and encouraged to become confident and independent learners. The school recognises the importance of personalised support for pupils with additional needs and works closely with teaching staff and families to ensure appropriate strategies are in place.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of Teaching Assistant you will:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Experience working with pupils with autism/ASC.
  • Primary school and/or KS2 experience.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain consistent and supportive when faced with challenging situations.
  • A genuine commitment to helping children develop their confidence and independence.
