An inclusive secondary school is seeking a Design Technology Technician to support practical lessons across DT, Textiles and Food Technology. The successful candidate will prepare resources, maintain equipment, ensure health and safety compliance, and provide technical support to staff and students within a busy department.
Term-time only contract available, with salary paid on a pro-rata basis where applicable.
About the role
As Design Technology Technician, you will provide technical and practical support across a range of specialist teaching areas. Working closely with teaching staff, you will help ensure lessons run smoothly by preparing materials, maintaining equipment and promoting safe working practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and setting up tools, equipment and materials for practical lessons
- Supporting teachers and students during practical activities
- Maintaining workshops, textiles rooms and food preparation areas
- Managing stock levels and ordering resources when required
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety, COSHH and food hygiene regulations
- Assisting with displays, exhibitions and extracurricular activities
- Supporting departmental administration and record-keeping

Requirements
To be considered for the role of Design Technology Technician you will:
- Experience working in a technical, workshop, laboratory or similar practical environment
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures and safe working practices
- Experience using tools, machinery and equipment relevant to Design Technology
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
- Previous experience in a technical or practical working environment.
- Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Experience working with tools, machinery or specialist equipment.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
