SEND Teaching Assistant

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Brent is seeking two dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join their specialist Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP). Both positions are long-term and full-time, with an ASAP start.

About the role

The school is looking for one Teaching Assistant to support pupils within the EYFS provision and another to work with pupils at KS2 level. Both roles will be based within the ARP, providing targeted support to pupils with additional needs while working closely with specialist staff and the wider school team.

The EYFS-based TA will support younger pupils within the ARP, helping them engage with early learning and develop key communication, social, emotional and independence skills. Experience supporting children with SEND in an early years or primary setting would be highly beneficial.

The KS2-based TA will support pupils with additional needs as they access age-appropriate learning and develop greater independence. You will work closely with the class teacher and specialist ARP staff to provide targeted support both academically and pastorally.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support within the ARP.
• Support pupils to access learning and participate in classroom activities.
• Adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs.
• Encourage communication, social interaction and independence.
• Support pupils with their emotional regulation and wellbeing.
• Implement strategies and approaches identified by teachers and specialist staff.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain a calm, structured environment.
• Build trusting and positive relationships with pupils.
• Work closely with teachers, SEND staff and other professionals.
• Observe and communicate pupil progress and development.
• Support pupils during transitions and across different aspects of the school day.
• Contribute to an inclusive and positive school environment.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEND Teaching Assistant you will:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Experience within a primary school, specialist provision or similar setting.
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• The ability to follow individual support strategies and adapt to changing needs.
• A positive attitude and commitment to inclusive education.

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
