A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Romford is seeking an experienced and passionate SENDCo to join its leadership team on an interim, part-time basis from September 2026.

About the role

As the Interim SENDCo, you will lead the strategic development of SEND provision across the school, ensuring pupils with additional needs receive high-quality support and achieve positive outcomes.

You will oversee EHCPs, coordinate interventions, support teachers with adaptive teaching strategies, liaise with parents and external agencies, and ensure the school remains compliant with the SEND Code of Practice.

This is a leadership-focused role with no classroom teaching commitment, providing the opportunity to dedicate your time to improving outcomes for pupils with SEND.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage SEND provision across the school
  • Ensure pupils with SEND receive appropriate, high-quality support
  • Oversee EHCPs, annual reviews, and SEND documentation
  • Work closely with teachers to promote inclusive and adaptive teaching
  • Support and coach staff to meet the needs of pupils with additional needs
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals
  • Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the impact of interventions
  • Ensure the school remains compliant with current SEND legislation and best practice

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SENCo you will:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • The National Award for SEND Coordination (or willingness to work towards it)
  • Previous experience as a SENDCo or within a SEND leadership role
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Passion for inclusive education and improving outcomes for all pupils
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:

  • Years of previous experience
