Trainee Teaching Assistant – Primary
Hounslow, West London
£475–£550 per week (salary dependent on experience and/or qualifications)

About the role

In partnership with local schools, we are proud to run our National Teaching Assistant Programme, supporting individuals who wish to begin or develop their career as a Teaching Assistant.
We are currently working with a friendly and inclusive mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Hounslow, rated Good by Ofsted, who are seeking a Trainee Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive primary school setting, working with pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, and helping children thrive both academically and socially.
The Programme
Working alongside our partner schools, we provide successful unqualified Teaching Assistants with high-quality training and paid on-the-job experience.
Following a successful interview and pending suitability, safeguarding and identity checks, we will work to secure you a paid placement in a local school, where you can build your classroom experience and develop your skills. You will also receive ongoing support from a dedicated Smart Teachers consultant.
Before starting your placement, you will complete a training programme delivered by Smart Teachers and experienced school leaders, equipping you with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed as a Teaching Assistant.
The Role
The role of a Teaching Assistant is vital to the smooth running of a primary school. Successful candidates are enthusiastic, patient and able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff.
In this role, you will:
- Support the class teacher with lessons and classroom activities
- Work with small groups of pupils or provide one-to-one support
- Help maintain a positive and engaging learning environment
- Assist with classroom organisation and learning resources
- Support pupils who may need additional help with their learning
- Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence and participation
