Smart Teachers are working in partnership with a high-performing and oversubscribed secondary school in Outer London to recruit an ambitious and inspirational Head of Humanities for September 2026
About the role
The Head of Humanities will provide strategic leadership across the faculty, securing high standards of curriculum, teaching and student achievement.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading curriculum development and ensuring consistency and progression across key stages

Driving exceptional outcomes through high-quality teaching and effective use of data

Line managing subject leaders and supporting staff development

Embedding strong assessment practices to raise attainment and close gaps

Contributing to whole-school improvement priorities
This is a senior leadership role within the school’s middle leadership structure, with significant scope to shape curriculum design and pedagogy across the Humanities faculty.

Requirements
To be considered for the role of Head of Humanities you will:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A proven track record of successful secondary teaching within a Humanities subject
- Current or previous leadership experience at department level
- The ability to inspire and lead teams to deliver outstanding outcomes
- Strong strategic thinking, organisational skills and a commitment to safeguarding
Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:
- Suitable teaching experience
